How to Get Re-Focused on Jesus.

We have to admit that there are a LOT of distractions that desperately trying to take our focus from Jesus. Every single day we have a choice:
Will we choose the instant gratification of the here and now that leads to distraction, or Will we choose the truth of Jesus that leads us to fulfillment of our calling in this one and ONLY life of ours?
The Bible (Acts 13:36) writes of King David at the end of his life, "For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep…" David served God’s purpose for him in his own generation. Wouldn’t you LOVE for God to say that about you- That you served God’s purpose in your generation? That just gets me fired up and ready to get serious about following Jesus. When I look at my life and my desire to live out my purpose and calling, I get focused. I get focused on JESUS – on spending daily, quality time with Him and in His Word in order to know Him, and therefore be equipped to fulfill His purposes. If we want to serve God’s purposes for our generation, we’ve got to get to HIM.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 says, "For a time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but have itching ears that will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from the truth and wander off into myths."
Seriously, can you already see this happening in our world?People who (as started in this verse above):
– will not endure sound teaching, – will accumulate teachers to suit their own passions,
– will turn away from the TRUTH,
– and will WANDER off into myths

Notice the word wanderthat is used in this Scripture. This word doesn’t mean they fell myths suddenly, right? It means gradual steps away from the right path (or the truth). Often times when we wander, we don’t even realize it till we’re totally lost! So instead of wandering from sound teaching and the TRUTH, what should we do?

Hebrews 10:23 says, "Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trust worthy and faithful to His Word."
We want to be people who (as stated in this verse above): – will seize and hold tightly to our confession of hope in Jesus,
– will not waver from this confession,
– will strongly believe that God keeps His promises,
– will strongly believe that He is reliable, trust worthy and faithful to His Word.
Our generation will be in a constant battle of choosing between distractions that "sound good/ seem good/ media makes look good and ‘normal’", and choosing to focusing in on the truth of Jesus. I have found that one of the easiest and most predicable ways to wander from the truth, is to not spend time with The Truth. – Simply put, we wander because we do not pray, and we do not read the Bible. -PRAYER is how we learn to trust God, talk to God, hear back from God, surrender to God, and get our minds off ourselves and recognize that HE IS GOD. READING OUR BIBLES equip us to know WHO God is and what He wants for our lives. It teaches us how He desires for us to conduct ourselves, corrects us, trains us and makes us complete (2 Timothy 3:16-17).So why, if we want to know God and live a life of purpose, do many of us not pray or read our Bibles? We. Are. DISTRACTED.
Here are some questions for us in the "distraction" from The Truth category:
In the morning when we wake up, do we first to filling our minds with the news, pictures, updates, and stories we find on our phones, or do we first look to filling our minds with the wisdom of His Word?
When we get worried, do we first text our mom, cousin, best friend, etc, or do we first turn to God and call out to Him for help?
When we have a decision to make, do we first take advice from those who aren’t deep in their faith, or do we first seek God in prayer and in the Bible (even if we don’t receive an immediate answer!)?
When we have questions about which way we should go, do we first look everywhere for "signs", or do we first turn to prayer and His Word…and wait for God to reveal His path?

When we have some rare quiet time during the day, do we itch to see what new likes and posts are happening on our apps, or do we allow ourselves to be still, pray and meditate on God and what He’s currently trying to teach us – in what we read from our Bibles, the church sermon we just heard, the Christian podcast we just played, (fill in your blank) – so can get DEEP with Him.When there is a controversial issue in our current culture, do we tune in to Hollywood, the loudest voices, the eloquent (but not-Bible-based) speakers, and the quick-and-easy-to-find FB posts that are in constantly in front of our faces? Or do we turn to the Word of God and seek to find the TRUE answers even though it takes more concentration and effort?

For us to be a generation of not just truth-seekers, but truth-finders and truth-livers, we must be willing to battle through the many distractions of the quick-and-easy, the loudest, the brightest, and choose to spend out time with GOD. If you’re asking HOW? How do I start praying or start reading the Bible so I can find the real Truth? I encourage you to read more of my blog posts on these subjects listed below! Or please feel free to contact me personally! But let’s be focused and diligent to seize the truth, knowing that this Truth only comes from spending time with Jesus!

Let us be a generation of women who, at the end of our lives, hear from Jesus, "She has served God’s purpose for her in her generation."
Love & Blessings as you seek the Truth of Jesus,
