5 Routines To Declutter Your Mind Before You Study Your Bible

If you have ever sat down to do your personal Bible Study and your mind is scattered, unfocused, and overall flustered – you came to the right place! 🙂 This morning in my women’s Bible Study, we each shared some of the routines we have to help us mentally declutter our minds so we can fully hear and learn from God.
I wanted to share them with you!

Mary in my Bible Study recommended this app – it’s a great tool that will send you a Biblical prayer and help focus your mind on God!

2. Read a mini devotional.

I’m talking about something short and sweet that gets us into the study-mode but doesn’t take up all of our time. Some examples below: –

Mini devotional book: –

My favorite from Beth Moore here,– My favorite short prayer book here, – Daily devotional email – Iget this one delivered to my email daily from James MacDonald. –

YouVersion Bible App with Bible plans

– this is the one I use most often. Each plan gives you a short devotional and then just a few Bible verses to go with it that you click on. Super easy.

3. Read any Psalm. We love how the Psalms help us turn our hearts and minds to Jesus and who HE is which sets us up for the focus we want to then dig into studying the Word.
4. Worship music:

Worship music definitely us helps relax us and gets us into a worship, focused-on-Jesus kinda mood! If you’d like some song suggestions – –Austin Stone– Krista in our study recommended one of her favorites.-

My fave!I love every song from their "Frontiers" album, but my favorite to prepare my heart is "Holy Spirit Come"… it has kinda a haunting tone to it… not sure if that’s how I should describe a worship song, but oh well!

– "Clean" by Natalie Grant

(Have you seen her little daughter sing this with her during a soundcheck on IG? TEARS!)

– "No Longer Slaves" by Bethel Music.

Try to NOT blast this in your car and worship God with all your might when you get to the ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – "What a Beautiful Name" by Hillsong Worship. Ah-Maz-Ing worship song!

5. IOUS Routine.
This is a simple Bible verse & short prayer acronym that Pastor John Piper created. Check out his full blog post herewith full details about his IOUS routine!
I. Incline my heart to your testimonies. Psalm 119:36 (Since my heart is inclined to sleep and work and lots of things other than the Bible.)
O. Open my eyes to see wonders in your word. Psalm 119:18 (Since my heart is so often dull and blind to the wonders of the word.)
U. Unite my heart to fear your name. Psalm 86:11 (Since my heart is often divided and distracted in many directions.)
S. Satisfy me with your steadfast love. Psalm 90:14 (Since my heart is so tempted to be satisfied in other things.)
I hope that is helpful! God has great and amazing things to give us through His Word!!!!
Love & Blessings,
Allison
